A browser-based alternative to the Deeds simulator
Deeds (Digital Electronics Education and Design Suite) is a free set of learn-by-doing tools for digital electronics developed at DITEN, University of Genoa: a digital circuit simulator (Deeds-DcS), a finite state machine simulator (Deeds-FsM) and a microcomputer emulator (Deeds-McE). It is a Windows application; Linux and Mac users run it through a virtual machine, Wine or CrossOver. If that is what brought you here, digiwleea is a free, in-browser alternative with a different angle: you build a computer from the transistor up.
What Deeds is good at
Deeds is a mature, well-maintained teaching suite (version 3.30 came out in July 2026) with a large library of learning material around it. Its three tools cover gate-level circuits, state machine design and microcomputer programming, and its FPGA module exports a design to VHDL so you can try it on a real FPGA board without writing VHDL yourself.
How digiwleea is different
digiwleea runs natively in any modern browser, so it works the same on a Mac, a Chromebook, Linux or a phone, with nothing to install. It also starts below the gate level: you build NOT, NAND and the other gates from individual CMOS transistors, and the simulator checks each against its truth table before you reuse it. A guided 40+ level course then composes them into adders, latches, registers, RAM and control logic until you have a working 8-bit CPU that you program in assembly, with an AI tutor (Wleea) to explain faults. Deeds is the stronger choice if you need FSM tools or an FPGA flow; digiwleea is the smoother path if you want to understand the whole machine from the transistor up without installing anything.
| Deeds | digiwleea | |
|---|---|---|
| Runs on | Windows (VM, Wine or CrossOver elsewhere) | Any modern browser, any OS |
| Smallest building block | Pre-built gates and components | CMOS transistors (build the gates too) |
| State machines and FPGA export | Yes (Deeds-FsM, FPGA module) | No FPGA export |
| Guided course to a CPU | Learning materials and exercises | Yes, 40+ levels with automatic checks |
| AI tutor | No | Yes (Wleea) |
| Price | Free (freeware) | Free lab and Act I; Premium for the full course |
No sign-up is needed to start: open the lab and place your first transistor, or read the free theory course. The account (and the AI tutor) are optional.
See for yourself: build a logic gate from transistors in the simulator, then follow the path from sand to an 8-bit CPU.

Is digiwleea a good Deeds alternative?
Yes, if you want to understand digital logic from the ground up. digiwleea is a free, in-browser simulator with a guided 40+ level course where you build every gate from CMOS transistors and work up to a real 8-bit CPU, with an AI tutor to help.
Is digiwleea free?
The sandbox lab and the first act of the course are free and need no sign-up. An optional account adds the AI tutor and cross-device sync; the full course and expanded AI tutoring are included in the monthly or annual Premium subscription.
Do I need to install anything?
No. digiwleea runs entirely in your browser, on desktop or mobile, and works offline once loaded.
